Church in Cuba Provides Hurricane Relief

On September 26th, Hurricane Ian swept across western Cuba, leaving destruction in its path. Because it later hit Florida, most people are not aware of the devastation in Pinar Del Rio and other cities in western Cuba.

Although we are not allowed to take hurricane relief teams to Cuba to assist our brothers and sisters in their time of need, the Cuban pastors and leaders that we partner with have stepped up and helped, even though their own resources are scarce.

I couldn’t help but think of how Paul describes the generosity of the churches of Macedonia in II Cor 8: 3. He said that “according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord.” Jorge and his church in Santa Clara gathered together food, clothing and much needed supplies and drove them to Pinar Del Rio, over 7 hours away, and delivered them to those in need.  It is humbling to see the generosity of those who don’t have much to give, but are willing to give sacrificially, beyond their own ability.  Here below is Jorge’s report of how the trip went. May we all be challenged to respond to the needs around us.

Good morning friends.

Our mission trip was SUCCESSFUL!!! Glory to God! We went on Friday and returned late Saturday. We were able to give the donations we collected to different New Pine Churches in Pinar del Rio. We made four large bundles and distributed them to those we saw were in greatest need.

On our trip we visited with some people who had literally lost everything! We prayed for them and gave them the Hope that Christ has left us! Our days prior to going got really complicated and we hardly had time to collect more donations, which actually turned out to be good as we had no more room in my VW wagon to carry them.

We thank you so much because we know you were aware, and praying. I send you a big hug and I share photos of the trip.

Blessings,

Jorge
